We can give you lots of unhurried time to ask questions which we can hope to be able to answer or find out the information for you. During our careers and lives we have both gained knowledge and experience that helps us recognise the wide range of possibilities during individualised normal pregnancy and birth with no need to medicalise the experience unnecessarily. As experienced midwives we can provide information and resources that you may not usually get from the NHS. Independent practice frees us up to allow a flexible approach to the uniqueness of women and their families. We also know some women choose to access some NHS services and want some independent services and we are happy to work this way. We cherish home birth, usually it all unfolds normally. Our main role is to observe and support the physiological process. If there was a situation or emergency that required resources and skills available only at hospital we would recommend transfer. Our role if this happens will be to remain with you but to step back and more act in a more supportive way. We will explain this in greater detail at our first meeting with you. We do regular emergency skills training. We both agree that breastfeeding is the best for mother and baby. We would endeavor to promote and support this in our care of families. We will listen to what each woman feels she needs in the way of information and guidance with feeding. We both have great confidence and respect for a mothers ability to feed her baby. Since March 2002 public indemnity insurance for self employed midwives was withdrawn. We aim to build close and honest relationships with clients. We trust this partnership approach will help protect us all from unfortunate scenarios. We will provide further information that we ask you to acknowledge should you book us. |
